here's an example of how I might approach a project, working with the
director and/or producer to ensure we get the results we're looking for.
it varies considerably according to the type of production, but something like
this has worked well in many previous assignments.
after the initial discussions (i.e. for films, the viewing / spotting
session) i establish the broad musical ideas i intend to use
and then demonstrate these fully - often including some set to video - to the
director or producer. this could be from my home studio
i then either change or replace those ideas, demonstrating them again where necessary, until i am confident i understand the director or producer's requirements. i later create a fairly complete initial demo of the film score or music piece(s), and pass this (for film projects, usually as a DVD or a video transmitted online) to the director and/or producer to review. we discuss that, and the kind of changes that may be required
once the music is working how we want it, i go on to create the final versions
of any audio i am producing myself, or work with the other studio personnel
available. i prefer to be present at the start and end of the music dubbing
sessions for film projects
if any of the above doesn't sound suitable, don't worry -
it's just one approach.
